{"id":6445,"date":"2016-08-24T14:41:26","date_gmt":"2016-08-24T13:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=6445"},"modified":"2016-10-21T15:26:29","modified_gmt":"2016-10-21T14:26:29","slug":"workshop-on-representations-of-breastfeeding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2016\/08\/24\/workshop-on-representations-of-breastfeeding\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshop on representations of breastfeeding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/complit\/staff\/haustein.html\">Dr Katja Haustein<\/a>, Lecturer in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/complit\/index.html\">Department of Comparative Literature<\/a>, has jointly organised a two-day workshop with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roehampton.ac.uk\/staff\/Katharina-Rowold\/\">Katharina Rowold<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roehampton.ac.uk\/staff\/Charlotte-Faircloth\/\">Charlotte Faircloth<\/a> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roehampton.ac.uk\/home\/\">University of Roehampton<\/a> entitled \u2018Representing Breastfeeding: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Nutrition, Politics, and Identity.\u2019 The workshop will take place on Thursday 15 September and Friday 16 September 2016 in the Convent Parlour, Digby Stuart College, at the University of Roehampton in London.<\/p>\n<p>The event draws together scholars from Europe and the US to discuss the historical, political, moral and cultural implications of representations of breastfeeding in art, literature, social policy, media and medical texts.<\/p>\n<p>The Keynote speaker at the event is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshire.edu\/faculty\/jutta-sperling\">Jutta Sperling<\/a> from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hampshire.edu\/\">Hampshire College<\/a> with a lecture entitled \u2018The Iconography of Roman Charity in the Context of Medical Theories on Breastfeeding as Cure\u2019.
