{"id":6120,"date":"2016-06-07T11:47:33","date_gmt":"2016-06-07T10:47:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=6120"},"modified":"2016-06-07T11:47:33","modified_gmt":"2016-06-07T10:47:33","slug":"jeremy-scott-to-talk-on-stylistics-and-writing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2016\/06\/07\/jeremy-scott-to-talk-on-stylistics-and-writing\/","title":{"rendered":"Jeremy Scott to talk on stylistics and writing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/staff\/scott.html\">Dr Jeremy Scott<\/a>, Senior Lecturer in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/index.html\">Department of English Language &amp; Linguistics<\/a>, will be giving a keynote address at the conference \u2018Intergrating English\u2019 to be held at Middlesex University on Friday 8 and Saturday 9 July 2016.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.integratingenglish.com\">Integrating English<\/a> is a project that aims to develop new ways of understanding English, particularly through integrating the study of language and literature, and to promote\u00a0stylistics as a discipline, so as to improve English in education at all levels. The conference will cover\u00a0key areas of the English Language and Literature Key Stage 5 syllabus and\u00a0this year will also explore ways of adapting\u00a0the tools and concepts covered and using them to support learning\u00a0at Key Stage 4 and below.<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy\u2019s talk is entitled \u2018Integrating Creative Writing and English Language\u2019, and he will argue that an understanding of stylistics has a great deal to offer the creative writer, the discussion and suggestions for practice are not intended to relate only to creative writing in the classroom, but also to the act of creative writing \u2018at the coalface\u2019.
