{"id":5747,"date":"2016-03-24T10:50:39","date_gmt":"2016-03-24T10:50:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=5747"},"modified":"2016-03-24T10:50:39","modified_gmt":"2016-03-24T10:50:39","slug":"2016-colloquium-of-the-british-association-of-academic-phoneticians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2016\/03\/24\/2016-colloquium-of-the-british-association-of-academic-phoneticians\/","title":{"rendered":"2016 Colloquium of the British Association of Academic Phoneticians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Members of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/index.html\">Department of English Language &amp; Linguistics<\/a> will be presenting papers at the <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.lancs.ac.uk\/phonetics\/baap2016\/\">2016 biennial Colloquium<\/a> of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.baap.ac.uk\/index.html\">British Association of Academic Phoneticians<\/a> to be held at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lancaster.ac.uk\/\">Lancaster University<\/a> from 30 March to 1 April 2016.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/staff\/arvaniti.html\">Professor Amalia Arvaniti<\/a>, Head of Department, will be speaking on \u2018Uptalk in Standard Southern British English\u2019 with Madeleine Atkins, a graduate from Kent\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/undergraduate\/english-language-and-linguistics.html\">BA (Hons) in English Language &amp; Linguistics<\/a>. Amalia will also co-present with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uclan.ac.uk\/staff_profiles\/hae-sung_jeon.php\">Hae-Sung Jeon<\/a> (University of Central Lancashire) on \u2018The Iambic-trochaic Law in Korean, Greek and English\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/staff\/rathcke.html\">Dr Tamara Rathcke<\/a>, Lecturer in Linguistics, will co-present on \u2018Dialectal Variation in the Interplay of Segmental and Prosodic Timing\u2019 with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gla.ac.uk\/schools\/critical\/staff\/rachelsmith\/\">Rachel Smith<\/a> (University of Glasgow).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/postgraduate\/research-students.html\">PhD students<\/a> from the Department will also be presenting posters on their research at the Colloquium. Graduate Teaching Assistant Ishrat Rehman will present her poster on \u2018A Phonetic and Phonological Investigation of Urdu Vowels\u2019, and Sumio Kobayashi will present his poster on \u2018The Influence of Mother Tongue and Musical Experience on Rhythm Perception\u2019.
