{"id":5605,"date":"2016-02-25T09:46:03","date_gmt":"2016-02-25T09:46:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=5605"},"modified":"2016-02-25T10:41:06","modified_gmt":"2016-02-25T10:41:06","slug":"ben-hutchinson-in-times-literary-supplement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2016\/02\/25\/ben-hutchinson-in-times-literary-supplement\/","title":{"rendered":"Ben Hutchinson in Times Literary Supplement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/modern-languages\/staff\/hutchinson.html\">Professor Ben Hutchinson<\/a>, from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/modern-languages\/index.html\">Department of Modern Languages<\/a> has a Commentary\u00a0in this week\u2019s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-tls.co.uk\/tls\/\">Times Literary Supplement<\/a> <\/em>(<em>TLS<\/em>), entitled \u2018A Posthumous Honour \u2013 On Lateness, Late Style and &#8220;The Old Age of the World&#8221;\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><em>TLS<\/em> is one of the most important literary journals in the world, offering comprehensive coverage of the latest and most significant publications, in every subject, in several languages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Anticipating\u00a0his forthcoming study <em>Lateness and Modern European Literature<\/em> (Oxford University Press, 2016),\u00a0Professor Hutchinson argues that late style &#8211; the term applied to works completed by artists towards the end of their lives &#8211; is as much a critical construct as a creative achievement, the secret subtext of which is invariably greatness:\u00a0some artists are born late, some achieve lateness, and some have lateness thrust upon them.
