It is published 10 times a year and sells over 81,000 copies each issue with 18,000 subscribers. <em>The Forecast <\/em>is from the editors and bureaux of Monocle and is a \u2018view beyond the horizon\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018When it comes to road building the Romans were the original and best.\u2019 Ray Laurence\u2019s essay entitled \u2018Ancient Roads take the lead\u2019 looks at what we can learn today from the Roman Empire\u2019s techniques. \u2018Historically it was the Romans who pioneered road building across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. Even now they continue to offer solutions to our contemporary issues regarding infrastructure expansion.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>In the article Ray asks \u2018Currently our new infrastructure projects are simply tinkering with a system of roads and cities created 2,000 years ago.
