{"id":5132,"date":"2015-11-05T16:26:02","date_gmt":"2015-11-05T16:26:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=5132"},"modified":"2016-09-30T15:01:48","modified_gmt":"2016-09-30T14:01:48","slug":"call-for-phd-applications-on-origen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/11\/05\/call-for-phd-applications-on-origen\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for PhD applications on Origen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Applications are welcome for 14 full-time PhD studentships on \u2018The History of Human Freedom and Dignity in Western Civilisation\u2019, available through a European Commission <a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/research\/mariecurieactions\/about-msca\/actions\/itn\/index_en.htm\">Innovation Training Network<\/a> (ITN) collaboration of five universities and nine non-academic partners, of which Professor Karla Pollmann, Head of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/index.html\">Department of Classical &amp; Archaeological Studies<\/a>, is a co-investigator.<\/p>\n<p>The ITN project has two aims: to train early stage researchers and to investigate the philosophical and theological traditions behind the modern Western conception of humans as free, valuable, and dignified beings, and how these traditions developed chronologically and geographically. The network will focus on the reception and assimilation of the theological ideas expounded by the church father <a href=\"http:\/\/www.britannica.com\/biography\/Origen\">Origen<\/a> from the 3<sup>rd<\/sup>-century Alexandria.<\/p>\n<p>Available projects particularly related to Classical &amp; Archaeological Studies are \u2018Origen in the Early Medieval Period\u2019 and \u2018Origen and Bernard of Clairvaux\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Applications close on 10 January 2016.
