{"id":5064,"date":"2015-10-19T09:19:01","date_gmt":"2015-10-19T08:19:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=5064"},"modified":"2015-10-19T09:19:01","modified_gmt":"2015-10-19T08:19:01","slug":"author-stephane-furina-to-visit-kent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/10\/19\/author-stephane-furina-to-visit-kent\/","title":{"rendered":"Author St\u00e9phane Furina to visit Kent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>French author St\u00e9phane Furina is coming to Kent to talk about his new book <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.polenordeditions.fr\/eleves.php\">Pires que les \u00e9l\u00e8ves<\/a> <\/em>[<em>Worse Than the Students<\/em>] (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.polenordeditions.fr\/\">North Pole Editions<\/a>, 2015) on Wednesday 21 October from 3-4pm in Grimond Lecture Theatre 1.<\/p>\n<p>St\u00e9phane Furina is an English teacher at a college in northern France. In his book, using often funny anecdotes and real-life situations, he tells the story of little Victor, a long-suffering student, and his alter-ego, the great Victor, a young teacher in a humorous campaign\u00a0against\u00a0&#8216;bad teachers&#8217;. He denounces the abuses committed in the name of corporatism by teachers who abuse their power with impunity. The book has become a big hit in France together with\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Pires-que-les-El\u00e8ves-508036889334535\/\"><em>Pires que les \u00e9l\u00e8ves<\/em>\u00a0Facebook page.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Students taking modules <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/modulecatalogue\/modules\/FR300\">FR300: Learning French 3<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/modulecatalogue\/modules\/FR589\">FR589: Learning French 4<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/modulecatalogue\/modules\/FR591\">FR591: Learning French 5<\/a> have been studying parts of St\u00e9phane\u2019s book and will have the opportunity to ask the author questions.<\/p>\n<p>The lecture is open to all and will be in French.
