{"id":5048,"date":"2015-10-14T16:53:56","date_gmt":"2015-10-14T15:53:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=5048"},"modified":"2015-10-14T16:53:56","modified_gmt":"2015-10-14T15:53:56","slug":"reshmi-dutter-flanders-to-present-on-csi-in-oxford","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/10\/14\/reshmi-dutter-flanders-to-present-on-csi-in-oxford\/","title":{"rendered":"Reshmi Dutter-Flanders to present on CSI in Oxford"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/staff\/dutta-flanders.html\">Dr Reshmi Dutta-Flanders<\/a>, Honorary Research Fellow in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/index.html\">Department of English Language &amp; Linguistics<\/a>, will be presenting at the workshop, \u2018The End of an Era? 15 Years of <em>CSI: Crime Scene Investigation<\/em> and Forensic TV\u2019 at Oxford Brookes University this week, on Friday and Saturday, 16-17 October 2015.<\/p>\n<p>This year the US drama <em>CSI: Crime Scene Investigation<\/em> finished, having re-defined the TV landscape, popularising forensic science as investigative methodology and, as a result, helped to influence the criminal narrative analysis.<\/p>\n<p>Reshmi\u2019s talk on offender discourse under one of the themes \u2018Forensic and Crime Aesthetics\u2019, looking at the perpetrator\u2019s narrative. This narrative is a complex state of affairs, and the agentive anti-hero is portrayed as a participant with no goal, a victim of circumstance.\u00a0\u00a0 The factors that led to the way things turned out to influence the offending disposition then became the suspense in the story of crime, over the revelation of the perpetrator in a typical murder mystery story.
