{"id":5006,"date":"2015-10-02T12:46:17","date_gmt":"2015-10-02T11:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=5006"},"modified":"2015-10-02T12:46:17","modified_gmt":"2015-10-02T11:46:17","slug":"evangelos-kyriakidis-interviewed-by-controversosud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/10\/02\/evangelos-kyriakidis-interviewed-by-controversosud\/","title":{"rendered":"Evangelos Kyriakidis interviewed by Controversosud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/staff\/kyriakidis.html\">Dr Evangelos Kyriakidis<\/a>, Senior Lecturer in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/index.html\">Classical &amp; Archaeological Studies<\/a>, has been interviewed by the Italian website <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.controversosud.it\">Controversosud<\/a>, <\/em>run by the Associazione di Promozione Sociale (Association of Social Promotions), a non-profit collective to promote social change.<\/p>\n<p>Evangelos, who is the Director of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/postgraduate\/taught-heritage-management.html\">MA in Heritage Management<\/a> at Kent\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/locations\/athens\/\">Athens location<\/a>, argues that education and research are the solution to the Greek financial crisis. \u2018We don\u2019t understand that to invest in education, especially in those fields that relate to economics, is crucial to foster change and can even give very short-term results,\u2019 he argues in the interview.<\/p>\n<p>Evangelos also argues that Athens needs to promote its heritage, \u2018not only for the immense cultural heritage that the city has to offer, but also to show solidarity to the country&#8230; I think that it is our duty to protect not only the stones but everything that these stones stand for, popularise the values of cultural heritage, tell them to our fellow citizens and to our children.
