{"id":4914,"date":"2015-09-25T15:18:13","date_gmt":"2015-09-25T14:18:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=4914"},"modified":"2016-09-30T14:58:20","modified_gmt":"2016-09-30T13:58:20","slug":"karla-pollmann-to-speak-at-faraday-institute","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/09\/25\/karla-pollmann-to-speak-at-faraday-institute\/","title":{"rendered":"Karla Pollmann to speak at Faraday Institute"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Professor Karla Pollmann,\u00a0Head of\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/index.html\">Department of Classical &amp;\u00a0Archaeological Studies<\/a>, will give a lecture at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faraday.st-edmunds.cam.ac.uk\/index.php\">Faraday Institute for Science and Religion<\/a>\u00a0in Cambridge on Tuesday 6 October, entitled \u2018How Did Augustine\u2019s Thought Shape a Scientific World-View?\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The Faraday Institute is an interdisciplinary research enterprise based at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.st-edmunds.cam.ac.uk\">St Edmund&#8217;s College, University of Cambridge<\/a>. In addition to academic research, the Institute engages in the public understanding of science and religion.<\/p>\n<p>Karla\u2019s talk is based on her work on Augustine\u2019s interpretation of the Book of Genesis and on his thoughts about academic disciplines in general, as outlined in her works <em>Augustine and the Disciplines,\u00a0<\/em>ed. with Mark Vassey<em>\u00a0<\/em>(Oxford University Press, 2005) and <em>Entre la ciencia y la salvacion: La interpretacion del Genesis en San Augustin <\/em>(Fliedner Ediciones,\u00a02013).
