{"id":4537,"date":"2015-08-28T16:50:51","date_gmt":"2015-08-28T15:50:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=4537"},"modified":"2015-08-28T22:58:38","modified_gmt":"2015-08-28T21:58:38","slug":"linguistics-graduate-to-edit-history-of-doctor-who","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/08\/28\/linguistics-graduate-to-edit-history-of-doctor-who\/","title":{"rendered":"Linguistics graduate to edit history of Doctor Who"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Emily Cook, a graduate from\u00a0the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/postgraduate\/taught-linguistics.html\">MA in Linguistics<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/undergraduate\/english-language-and-linguistics.html\">BA (Hons) in English Language &amp; Linguistics<\/a>, has recently been appointed as editorial assistant for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dwcompletehistory.com\"><em>Doctor Who: The Complete History<\/em><\/a> in association with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.doctorwhomagazine.com\"><em>Doctor Who Magazine<\/em><\/a>, published by Panini.<\/p>\n<p><em>Doctor Who: The Complete History <\/em>is a part-work magazine series that will go behind the scenes of every single episode of the long-running sci-fi series, which started in 1963, covering the adventures of all twelve Doctors, from William Hartnell to Peter Capaldi. There will be 80 issues in total.<\/p>\n<p>During her studies, Emily undertook the module <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/modulecatalogue\/modules\/LL530\">Writing In The Media: A Practical Approach<\/a>, which led her to a work experience placement with <em>Doctor Who Magazine<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>On her appointment, Emily said: \u2018I am a big <em>Doctor Who<\/em> fan and have read <em>Doctor Who Magazine<\/em> avidly for years. When I picked up my first issue of <em>DWM<\/em> as a young teenager, I never ever dreamed I\u2019d be working for them in years to come. So, it would be an understatement to say I\u2019m extremely excited about this job! To be able to leave university and go into a job which will allow me to use the skills I learnt while studying linguistics at the University of Kent is very rewarding.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><em>Doctor Who: The Complete History<\/em> is available from Wednesday 9 September.
