{"id":4311,"date":"2015-06-08T11:11:07","date_gmt":"2015-06-08T10:11:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=4311"},"modified":"2015-07-31T16:24:52","modified_gmt":"2015-07-31T15:24:52","slug":"natalia-sobrevilla-perea-publishes-on-the-cadiz-constitution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/06\/08\/natalia-sobrevilla-perea-publishes-on-the-cadiz-constitution\/","title":{"rendered":"Natalia Sobrevilla Perea publishes on the C\u00e1diz Constitution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/hispanicstudies\/staff\/perea.html\">Dr Natalia Sobrevilla Perea<\/a> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/modern-languages\/index.html\">Department of Modern Languages <\/a>has just co-edited a book with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.creighton.edu\/ccas\/history\/faculty\/facultyprofiles\/eastman\/\">Scott Eastman<\/a>, Associate Professor at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.creighton.edu\">Creighton University<\/a>, entitled <em>The Rise of Constitutional Government in the Iberian Atlantic World<\/em> (University of Alabama Press, 2015).<\/p>\n<p>The edited collection follows on from the recent bicentenary of the C\u00e1diz Constitution of 1812, the first liberal constitution of the Hispanic world.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Constitution was extremely influential in and beyond Europe, and the essays within the book explore how its enduring legacy not only shaped the history of state-building, elections, and municipal governance in Iberian America, but also affected national identities and citizenship as well as the development of race and gender in the region.
