{"id":4087,"date":"2015-04-30T11:22:56","date_gmt":"2015-04-30T10:22:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=4087"},"modified":"2015-05-07T16:18:27","modified_gmt":"2015-05-07T15:18:27","slug":"comparative-literature-student-wins-williams-prize","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/04\/30\/comparative-literature-student-wins-williams-prize\/","title":{"rendered":"Comparative Literature student wins Williams Prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Gillian Andrews, a third-year <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/complit\/undergraduate\/comparative-literature-with-a-year-abroad.html\">BA (Hons) Comparative Literature with a Year Abroad <\/a>student, has won a <a href=\"https:\/\/lsaw.lib.lehigh.edu\/\">Williams Writing and Performance Award<\/a> while on her year abroad at <a href=\"http:\/\/www1.lehigh.edu\/\">Lehigh University<\/a> in Pennsylvania, the United States.<\/p>\n<p>The Williams Prize was established in 1908 by Edward H Williams, Professor of Geology and Mechanical Engineering at Lehigh University, and\u00a0recognises outstanding work in writing and performance with prizes ranging from $200 to $1,000.<\/p>\n<p>Gillian submitted her paper entitled &#8216;If Looks Could Kill: Exploring Practices of Looking in Showtime&#8217;s <em>Dexter<\/em>&#8216; in the category of &#8216;Critical Writing by a Junior&#8217; and was awarded first place\u00a0and a prize of $1,000.
