{"id":3971,"date":"2015-03-25T11:48:19","date_gmt":"2015-03-25T11:48:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3971"},"modified":"2016-09-30T14:59:51","modified_gmt":"2016-09-30T13:59:51","slug":"karla-pollmann-to-lecture-in-belgium-and-the-netherlands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/03\/25\/karla-pollmann-to-lecture-in-belgium-and-the-netherlands\/","title":{"rendered":"Karla Pollmann to lecture in Belgium and the Netherlands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Professor Karla Pollmann, Head of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/index.html\">Department of Classical &amp;\u00a0Archaeological Studies<\/a>\u00a0and Director of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/researchcentres\/early-christianity\/index.html\">Centre for Early Christianity and Its Reception<\/a>\u00a0(CECIR), is to \u00a0give lectures in Belgium and the Netherlands based on her research into\u00a0early Christianity.<\/p>\n<p>On 27 March 2015, she will present the results of her interdisciplinary research on the reception of early Christianity at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kuleuven.be\/english\">University of Leuven<\/a>, Belgium. This lecture is part of the doctoral colloquium &#8216;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.babel-religions.be\/node\/115\">Quo vadis, Patrologia?<\/a>&#8216; hosted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.babel-religions.be\/\">Belgian Association for the Study of Religion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On 2 April 2015, Karla will deliver a keynote lecture for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hum.leidenuniv.nl\/gltc\/forum-antiquum\/forum-antiquum.html\">Forum Antiquum<\/a>, a lecture series organised by the Department of Greek and Latin, at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leidenuniv.nl\/\">University of Leiden<\/a>, the Netherlands. The lecture, in homage to the Dutch scholarship that has inspired Karla\u2019s work, will deal with aspects of the thought and impact of Augustine of Hippo (354-430) and will be delivered in Dutch.<\/p>\n<p>Both these lectures mark, and contribute to,\u00a0an increasing trend to look at the tradition of early Christianity as a cultural force shaped by the surrounding Mediterranean tradition which, in turn, helped to shape the Western tradition to the present day.
