{"id":3960,"date":"2015-03-20T16:33:23","date_gmt":"2015-03-20T16:33:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3960"},"modified":"2015-03-20T16:33:23","modified_gmt":"2015-03-20T16:33:23","slug":"christina-kim-publishes-in-cognition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/03\/20\/christina-kim-publishes-in-cognition\/","title":{"rendered":"Christina Kim publishes in Cognition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/staff\/kim.html\">Dr Christina Kim<\/a>, from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/index.html\">Department of English Language &amp; Linguistics<\/a>, has just published an article in the journal <a href=\"http:\/\/www.journals.elsevier.com\/cognition\/\"><em>Cognition<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Cognition: International Journal of Cognitive Science<\/em>, is a bimonthly\u00a0peer-reviewed journal covering cognitive science, published by Elsevier. It was established in 1972, and currently has the second highest impact factor within the language and linguistics subject area.<\/p>\n<p>Christina\u2019s article concerns the information within a sentence that not only depends on the descriptive content of words, but also on the implicit alternatives in the context of use. Her paper reports the results of four visual eye-tracking experiments to examine how alternative meanings are generated based on the aspects of context, and how they are used in sentences that use the words \u2018only\u2019 and \u2018also\u2019 to provide focus.<\/p>\n<p>The experiments were conducted using state-of-the-art eye tracking equipment.
