{"id":3921,"date":"2015-03-16T10:12:51","date_gmt":"2015-03-16T10:12:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3921"},"modified":"2015-05-15T13:34:22","modified_gmt":"2015-05-15T12:34:22","slug":"film-screening-we-are-many","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/03\/16\/film-screening-we-are-many\/","title":{"rendered":"Film screening: &#8216;We Are Many&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/hispanicstudies\/staff\/rowlandson.html\">Dr William Rowlandson<\/a>, from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/hispanicstudies\/index.html\">Department of Hispanic Studies<\/a>, in collaboration with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/amst\/\">Centre for American Studies<\/a>,\u00a0will be introducing\u00a0 Amir Amirani, director of the documentary film <em>We Are Many,\u00a0<\/em>as\u00a0part of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/politics\/index.html\">School of Politics and International Relations<\/a>&#8216; Public Speaker programme. \u00a0The film screening, accompanied\u00a0by a Q&amp;A session with the director, will be\u00a0on Wednesday 25\u00a0March from 5 to 7pm, in Woolf Lecture Theatre.<\/p>\n<p><em>We Are Many<\/em> is the never-before-told story of the largest demonstration in human history, and how the movement created by a small band of activists changed the world. On 15 February 2003, up to 30 million people, many of whom had never demonstrated before in their lives, came out in nearly 800 cities around the world to protest against the impending Iraq War. <em>The New York Times<\/em> called this movement the \u2018second superpower\u2019. The film features testimony from a cast of direct participants, including organisers, activists, high-profile figures, and of course the public, filmed in seven countries \u2013 Italy, Spain, Egypt, Sweden, Australia, UK, and the USA.<\/p>\n<p>Amir Amirani is a film-maker with a strong track record of work for some of the most respected series of the BBC, including <em>Arena<\/em> (&#8216;And The Winner Is&#8230;&#8217;), <em>Timewatch<\/em> (&#8216;Concorde \u2013 A Love Story&#8217;), <em>Picture This<\/em> (&#8216;Hallelujah Hendrix&#8217;), <em>Correspondent<\/em> (&#8216;Letter to America&#8217; and &#8216;Addicted to Arms&#8217;) and <em>Newsnight<\/em>.
