{"id":3694,"date":"2015-02-02T16:36:02","date_gmt":"2015-02-02T16:36:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3694"},"modified":"2015-02-02T16:36:02","modified_gmt":"2015-02-02T16:36:02","slug":"hispanic-studies-trip-to-havana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/02\/02\/hispanic-studies-trip-to-havana\/","title":{"rendered":"Hispanic Studies trip to Havana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following a successful bid to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/humanities\/internationalisation\/intro.html\">Faculty of Humanities Internationalisation Fund <\/a>and to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/index.html\">School of European Culture and Language<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/hispanicstudies\/staff\/roser.html\">Dr Montserrat Roser i Puig <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/hispanicstudies\/staff\/rowlandson.html\">Dr William Rowlandson<\/a> were able to take a group of 18 students from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/hispanicstudies\/index.html\">Hispanic Studies<\/a> on a subsidised study trip to Havana, Cuba.<\/p>\n<p>The trip allowed the students to explore first-hand the rich and lively culture of Havana, to immerse themselves in its language, history, architecture, music, cars, noise, food, and rum, providing direct practical experience of material studied in a number of Hispanic Studies modules.<\/p>\n<p>The full schedule allowed plenty of time for individual activities such as wandering through the streets of Old Havana, strolling along El Malec\u00f3n (the sea wall) and sampling local food and drink; as well as\u00a0the group activities including an evening\u2019s dinner and salsa dancing at the old colonial mansion Palacio de la Artesan\u00eda, a live rumba performance at Callej\u00f3n Hamel, a tour of the Habana Club rum factory, a day\u2019s outing with poet Ernesto Canteli and\u00a0a contemporary art exhibition in the Pabell\u00f3n de Cuba.
