{"id":3668,"date":"2015-01-21T11:11:38","date_gmt":"2015-01-21T11:11:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3668"},"modified":"2015-01-29T13:44:56","modified_gmt":"2015-01-29T13:44:56","slug":"holocaust-memorial-week-at-kent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2015\/01\/21\/holocaust-memorial-week-at-kent\/","title":{"rendered":"Holocaust memorial week at Kent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Second- and third-year <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/complit\/index.html\">Comparative Literature<\/a> students are organising a series of events in honour of Holocaust Memorial Day after taking the module <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/courses\/modulecatalogue\/modules\/CP624\">The Shoah in Literature, Film and Culture<\/a>, convened by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/complit\/staff\/staehler.html\">Dr Axel St\u00e4hler<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Holocaust memorial events start today,\u00a0Wednesday 21\u00a0January, with a talk by Joan Salter, a Holocaust survivor, from 5-7pm in\u00a0Woolf Lecture Theatre 1. This is followed by readings, talks and speeches on Tuesday 27 January from 6-7pm in Grimond Lecture Theatre 3.<\/p>\n<p>Through the week there will also be film festival in Grimond Lecture Theatre 3 from 7pm, featuring movies related to the Shoah. The films include <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/events\/index.html?eid=13282815-F53F-4175-A37F-66508B20C0CB&amp;view_by=month&amp;date=20150121&amp;category=&amp;tag=\">Schindler\u2019s List<\/a><\/em> on Monday 26 January, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/events\/index.html?eid=D6900A99-993B-475E-A289-FBE1A7025E86&amp;view_by=month&amp;date=20150121&amp;category=&amp;tag=\">Defiance<\/a><\/em> on Wednesday 28 January, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/events\/index.html?eid=696E36F9-4CCB-4467-8884-014449D9DB07&amp;view_by=month&amp;date=20150121&amp;category=&amp;tag=\">The Pianist<\/a><\/em> on Thursday 29 January and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/events\/index.html?eid=72616958-CFA0-43CE-9DC6-A419A64F2A8A&amp;view_by=month&amp;date=20150121&amp;category=&amp;tag=\">Band of Brothers: \u2018Why We Fight\u2019<\/a><\/em> on Friday 30 January.<\/p>\n<p>All three events have been organised in association with the Kent Jewish Society, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.het.org.uk\/\">Holocaust Educational Trust<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kentunion.co.uk\/\">Kent Student Union<\/a> .<\/p>\n<p>The students will also launch an online journal on Tuesday 27 January entitled <em>Undergraduate Shoah Studies at Kent<\/em> with reviews, interviews, historical essays and creative writing on the theme Shoah and the various modes of its representation and commemoration.
