{"id":3441,"date":"2014-11-28T15:25:38","date_gmt":"2014-11-28T15:25:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3441"},"modified":"2017-06-15T10:34:37","modified_gmt":"2017-06-15T09:34:37","slug":"digital-humanities-scholarships-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2014\/11\/28\/digital-humanities-scholarships-now-available\/","title":{"rendered":"Digital Humanities scholarships now available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two PhD scholarships are now being offered, for 2015 entry, in the area of Digital Humanities, focusing on Digital Heritage as defined by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.unesco.org\/new\/fileadmin\/MULTIMEDIA\/HQ\/CI\/CI\/pdf\/mow\/charter_preservation_digital_heritage_en.pdf\">UNESCO<\/a> in 2003 and, subsequently, developed as the use of digital technologies to protect, document and understand humanity\u2019s shared heritage.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarships are being offered by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/scholarships\/postgraduate\/eastern_arc.html\">Eastern Academic Research Consortium<\/a> (Eastern ARC), a collaboration between Kent and the universities of Essex and East Anglia. The Eastern ARC stimulates cross-institutional working and creates an environment in which collaborative research can flourish.<\/p>\n<p>Digital Humanities at Kent is led by Professor Ray Laurence from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/index.html\">Department of Classical and Archaeological Studies<\/a>, with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/classics\/staff\/vis.html\">Dr Benjamin Vis<\/a> has been appointed as the Research Fellow for this area. Applications\u00a0with\u00a0the following research interests\u00a0are particularly welcome: the digital analysis of the built environment; spatial humanities; comparative approaches to urbanism and urban life (including the study of the Pre-Columbian Americas, especially ancient Maya, and historic Europe); and geocomputational visualisations of urban archaeological data.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates interested in applying for the Kent Eastern ARC Scholarships should make contact with potential supervisors at the University of Kent.
