{"id":3396,"date":"2014-11-11T17:07:23","date_gmt":"2014-11-11T17:07:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3396"},"modified":"2018-04-04T12:32:25","modified_gmt":"2018-04-04T11:32:25","slug":"call-for-chapter-submissions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2014\/11\/11\/call-for-chapter-submissions\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for submissions on religion and the city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Abstracts are invited for a volume entitled\u00a0<em>Religion and the Global City<\/em>,<em>\u00a0<\/em>to be edited by Dr Anna Strhan from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/thrs\/index.html\">Department of Religious Studies<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr\/staff\/academic\/garbin-david.html\">Dr David Garbin<\/a> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr\/index.html\">School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research<\/a>. The volume will\u00a0explore how religious movements and actors shape and are shaped by particular aspects of global socio-spatial landscapes. These might include (but are not limited to): migration, transnationalism, super diversity, urban interconnections and nodes, media and publics, socio-economic polarization, centre-periphery dynamics, urban restructuring, privatization, globalized convergent geographies and architectural aesthetics, urban economies and city branding, and modes of urban visibility and invisibility.<\/p>\n<p>The focus of the book will be religion and the global city\u00a0&#8211; not simply religion\u00a0in the city &#8211; and will adopt a non-reductive stance in exploring \u2018global city\u2019 dynamics of religious presence, in both Global North and Global South contexts. The proposal for this volume has been invited for a new <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomsbury.com\/uk\/academic\/\">Bloomsbury Academic<\/a> book series on \u2018Place, Disruption and Religion\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>They welcome empirically-grounded case study chapters, comparative approaches, or chapters exploring connections between religious global city spaces within wider cartographies.
