{"id":3385,"date":"2014-11-10T10:51:19","date_gmt":"2014-11-10T10:51:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3385"},"modified":"2014-11-17T10:04:06","modified_gmt":"2014-11-17T10:04:06","slug":"tamara-rathcke-publishes-with-royal-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2014\/11\/10\/tamara-rathcke-publishes-with-royal-society\/","title":{"rendered":"Tamara Rathcke publishes with the Royal Society"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/staff\/rathcke.html\">Dr Tamara Rathcke<\/a> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/index.html\">Department of English Language and Linguistics<\/a> has co-edited a themed Issue of the science journal <em>Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B,<\/em> entitled \u2018Communicative Rhythms in Brain and Behaviour.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><em>Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society <\/em>is one of the oldest scientific journals in the English speaking world, established in 1665. The journal separated into A and B versions, <em>A:<\/em> <em>Physical, Mathematical and Engineering Sciences <\/em>and <em>B:<\/em> <em>Biological Sciences<\/em> in 1887. Tamara\u2019s co-edited issue appears in the latter.<\/p>\n<p>Tamara and her co-authors, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gla.ac.uk\/schools\/critical\/staff\/rachelsmith\/\">Rachel Smith<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.csi.ucd.ie\/users\/fred-cummins\">Fred Cummins<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eca.ed.ac.uk\/reid-school-of-music\/katie-overy\">Katie Overy<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.icn.ucl.ac.uk\/Staff-Lists\/MemberDetails.php?Title=Prof&amp;FirstName=Sophie&amp;LastName=Scott\">Sophie Scott<\/a><strong>, <\/strong>bring together cutting-edge original research with reviews from different disciplinary perspectives. They seek to integrate theoretical and empirical advances, and to expand the common ground and potential for collaboration between the many disciplines involved in researching rhythm.<\/p>\n<p>The papers of the issue explore a wide range of questions relating to the functions of rhythm in behaviour and the neurobiological bases of rhythm in the brain. What do speech and music share in terms of their rhythmic organisation, and how do they differ? How can rhythmic structure enhance prediction? How does it facilitate social interaction, from infancy onwards?
