{"id":3370,"date":"2014-11-06T09:33:04","date_gmt":"2014-11-06T09:33:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3370"},"modified":"2014-11-06T09:33:04","modified_gmt":"2014-11-06T09:33:04","slug":"fellowship-for-the-revd-stephen-laird","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2014\/11\/06\/fellowship-for-the-revd-stephen-laird\/","title":{"rendered":"Fellowship for the Revd Stephen Laird"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/thrs\/staff\/laird.html\">Revd Dr Stephen Laird<\/a>, associate lecturer in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/thrs\/index.html\">Department of Religious Studies<\/a>, and the University&#8217;s\u00a0Anglican chaplain, has\u00a0been elected Fellow of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sal.org.uk\/\">Society of Antiquaries<\/a> in London. The election took place on 23rd October at Burlington House, and the outcome was a unanimous vote in favour of\u00a0Stephen joining the Fellowship of the Society.<\/p>\n<p>The Society of Antiquaries&#8217; <em>raison d&#8217;\u00eatre<\/em> is to further and encourage the study of, and public understanding of,\u00a0cultural heritage across the globe. On the Society&#8217;s web site Stephen is hailed as an &#8216;expert on aspects of 19th- and 20th-century British painting and print-making, with a particular interest in John Piper&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen is best known\u00a0at Kent as a chaplain, and as a lecturer in\u00a0Religious Studies, but his PhD, from the University of Kent, combined his theological interests with his love of art, and he examined the moral and doctrinal dimensions in the Romantic tradition of 19th- and 20th-century British landscape painting.
