{"id":3188,"date":"2014-10-07T10:14:46","date_gmt":"2014-10-07T10:14:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3188"},"modified":"2014-10-07T10:14:46","modified_gmt":"2014-10-07T10:14:46","slug":"competition-the-origins-of-human-language","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2014\/10\/07\/competition-the-origins-of-human-language\/","title":{"rendered":"Competition: \u2018The Origins of Human Language\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/ell\/index.html\">Department of English Language &amp; Linguistics<\/a> invites all students to participate in a competition for the creation of an exhibit, to be included in their forthcoming \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/geniusoflanguage\/\">Genius of Language<\/a>\u2019 exhibition at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canterbury.co.uk\/Beaney\/\">The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge<\/a>, in the centre of Canterbury.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of the competition is \u2018The Origins of Human Language\u2019 and entrants are asked to prepare an interactive exhibit (such as a poster, video, diorama, or activity) that illustrates the origins and evolution of language.<\/p>\n<p>Students of all stages can participate, and group work is particularly encouraged. All participants gain <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/employabilitypoints\/\">employability points<\/a>, and all materials entering the competition will be displayed in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/researchcentres\/linguistics-lab\/index.html\">Linguistics Lab<\/a> during the term.
