{"id":3130,"date":"2014-09-17T12:20:05","date_gmt":"2014-09-17T12:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3130"},"modified":"2014-09-17T17:06:26","modified_gmt":"2014-09-17T17:06:26","slug":"edward-kanterian-publishes-in-neue-zurcher-zeitung","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2014\/09\/17\/edward-kanterian-publishes-in-neue-zurcher-zeitung\/","title":{"rendered":"Edward Kanterian publishes in Neue Z\u00fcrcher Zeitung"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/kanterian.html\">Dr Edward Kanterian<\/a> from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/index.html\">Department of Philosophy<\/a> has just had\u00a0an article on communism published in the 14 September edition of\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nzz.ch\/\">Neue Z\u00fcrcher Zeitung<\/a><\/em>\u00a0[<em>Zurich New Journal<\/em>], a major Swiss\u00a0newspaper with a circulation of 170,000.<\/p>\n<p>The article, entitled &#8216;Den Willen und die Knochen brechen&#8217; [&#8216;Breaking the Will and the Bones&#8217;], analyses the history of the legal prosecution of crimes committed by the Communist regime in Romania 1947-1989, and the political and social aspect of this prosecution. It comes to the conclusion that the prosecution of these crimes, after 1989 (when Communism came to a fall in Romania), was obstructed by former members of the Communist regime. Only when an anti-Communist president, Traian Basescu, was voted into power did things change for the better, although difficulties of legal and political nature remain.
