{"id":3074,"date":"2014-08-21T08:12:32","date_gmt":"2014-08-21T08:12:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=3074"},"modified":"2015-09-01T16:53:03","modified_gmt":"2015-09-01T15:53:03","slug":"call-for-papers-on-progic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2014\/08\/21\/call-for-papers-on-progic\/","title":{"rendered":"Call for papers on progic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/williamson.html\">Professor Jon Williamson<\/a> and Dr Juergen Landes,\u00a0both from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/index.html\">Department of Philosophy<\/a>, are organising &#8216;progic 2015&#8217;, a workshop on combining probability and logic.<\/p>\n<p>The event, hosted by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/researchcentres\/reasoning\/index.html\">Centre for Reasoning<\/a>, will be the seventh instalment in the progic series. The workshop\u00a0will particularly focus\u00a0on connections between <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Formal_epistemology\">formal epistemology<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/plato.stanford.edu\/entries\/logic-inductive\/\">inductive logic<\/a>, asking such questions as: can inductive logic shed light on epistemological questions to do with belief, judgement etc.? Can epistemological considerations lead to a viable notion of inductive logic?<\/p>\n<p>Invited speakers include: Professor Richard Bradley (LSE), Professor Dorothy Edgington (Birkbeck College, University of London), Professor John Norton (University of Pittsburgh), and Professor Jeanne Peijnenburg (University of Groningen).<\/p>\n<p>Submissions for presentations are invited; please send two-page abstracts to Juegen Landes.<\/p>\n<p>There will also be a special issue of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.journals.elsevier.com\/journal-of-applied-logic\/\"><em>Journal of Applied Logic<\/em><\/a> devoted to the themes of the\u00a0workshop. When submitting abstracts, please say whether you intend to submit your paper to the special issue on this topic.<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for submission is <strong>1 November 2014<\/strong>. Notice\u00a0of acceptance of papers for presentation is hoped to be given by\u00a01 December.<\/p>\n<p>The workshop will be preceded by a two-day spring school with introductory lectures on the themes of the workshop.
