{"id":2872,"date":"2014-07-09T11:22:58","date_gmt":"2014-07-09T11:22:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=2872"},"modified":"2014-07-09T11:22:58","modified_gmt":"2014-07-09T11:22:58","slug":"ward-blanton-to-talk-on-pasolini-at-the-ica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2014\/07\/09\/ward-blanton-to-talk-on-pasolini-at-the-ica\/","title":{"rendered":"Ward Blanton to talk on Pasolini at the ICA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/thrs\/staff\/blanton.html\">Dr Ward Blanton <\/a>from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/thrs\/index.html\">Department of Religious Studies <\/a>will be at the Institute of Contemporary Arts on Thursday 10\u00a0July as part of a panel to discuss Saint Paul and the Italian filmmaker Pier Paolo\u00a0Pasolini&#8217;s politics and attitude to religion.<\/p>\n<p>The event, entitled &#8216;A Visionary Rage: Pasolini&#8217;s Saint Paul&#8217;, will discuss and celebrate the publication of <em>Saint Paul<\/em>\u00a0(Verso Books, 2014), to which Ward contributes, and includes a screening of \u00a0Pasolini\u2019s forensic dissection of the tragedy of human society and life <em>La Rabbia<\/em> (<em>The Rage,\u00a0<\/em>1963).<\/p>\n<p>The book presents, in English translation, Pasolini\u2019s screenplay for a life of Saint Paul, an\u00a0unfilmed project that would have transposed the biblical Paul\u00a0to a contemporary setting. \u00a0Pasolini\u2019s greatest achievement was his forceful, articulate, personal challenge to Church, state and religion in a country that had known fascism, was home to the Vatican and yet elected numbers of communist officials. His legacy is a sensational body of film and writing\u00a0that goes to the very root of human life. His personality and intelligence still\u00a0resonates\u00a0vividly today, despite his brutal murder in 1975.
