{"id":2701,"date":"2014-05-22T10:47:49","date_gmt":"2014-05-22T10:47:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=2701"},"modified":"2015-08-14T15:42:57","modified_gmt":"2015-08-14T14:42:57","slug":"amelie-nothomb-at-paris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2014\/05\/22\/amelie-nothomb-at-paris\/","title":{"rendered":"Am\u00e9lie Nothomb at Paris"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last week, internationally acclaimed Belgian author Am\u00e9lie Nothomb\u00a0visited Kent\u2019s Montparnasse centre for a conference on her work, giving students from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/locations\/paris\">University of Kent at Paris<\/a> (UKP) had the opportunity to interview her.<\/p>\n<p>The students also had the opportunity to watch and discuss the documentary <em>Am\u00e9lie Nothomb, une vie entre deux eaux<\/em> with its writer Laureline Amanieux and writer\/director Luca Chiari.<\/p>\n<p>Academics from Canada, USA and Europe also participated in the conference, entitled \u2018Identity, Memory, Place: Am\u00e9lie Nothomb &#8211; Past, Present and Future\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Am\u00e9lie Nothomb is one of today\u2019s most popular and widely translated European authors. She has written more than 20 novels, two of which have been adapted for film whilst others have become stage plays.<\/p>\n<p>Adina Stroia, a PhD in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/french\/index.html\">Department of\u00a0French<\/a>, said: &#8216;Am\u00e9lie Nothomb is one of the most prolific authors on the contemporary French literary scene. This conference attested not only to her growing cultural importance, but gave specialists and readers of her works the occasion to critically engage with her writing in what was a rich and stimulating event.
