{"id":2261,"date":"2014-03-04T12:49:30","date_gmt":"2014-03-04T12:49:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=2261"},"modified":"2014-03-04T15:14:56","modified_gmt":"2014-03-04T15:14:56","slug":"congratulations-to-simon-kirchin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2014\/03\/04\/congratulations-to-simon-kirchin\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations to Simon Kirchin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/staff\/kirchin.html\">Dr\u00a0Simon Kirchin<\/a>, Reader in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/philosophy\/index.html\">Philosophy<\/a>, has been appointed as\u00a0the next Dean of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/humanities\/\">Faculty of Humanities<\/a>. Simon, who is currently the Acting Dean and Director of Learning and Teaching, will formally start\u00a0his new role in April, and will continue as Dean until 2019.<\/p>\n<p>As Acting Dean, Simon replaced <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dundee.ac.uk\/principalsoffice\/principalofficers\/biographies\/professorkarlleydecker\/\">Karl Leydecker<\/a>, who also previously taught in the Department of German within the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/\">School of European Culture and Languages<\/a> (SECL), and is current Vice-Principal at the University of Dundee.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Whilst\u00a0I will be very sad not to be working in Philosophy and SECL as much as I have done in the past,&#8217; says Simon, &#8216;I&#8217;m looking forward enormously to leading the Faculty as it goes from strength to strength&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Simon will continue to supervise PhD students and will be running a reading group for postgraduates and staff next year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr\u00a0Simon Kirchin, Reader in Philosophy, has been appointed as\u00a0the next Dean of the Faculty of Humanities.
