{"id":1805,"date":"2013-11-05T11:01:17","date_gmt":"2013-11-05T11:01:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=1805"},"modified":"2015-05-13T17:12:30","modified_gmt":"2015-05-13T16:12:30","slug":"gulbenkian-cinema-hosts-german-film-season","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2013\/11\/05\/gulbenkian-cinema-hosts-german-film-season\/","title":{"rendered":"Gulbenkian cinema hosts German film season"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Gulbenkian, the University\u2019s on-site cinema, has put together, in association with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/german\/index.html\">Department of German<\/a> and the student <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/german\/undergraduate\/german-society.html\">German Society<\/a>, a series of German-language and German-themed films through November and December.<\/p>\n<p>The films will be shown on Wednesday afternoons, with a special discount (\u00a33 for concessions and \u00a34.50 for full-price).<\/p>\n<p>All of the films date post-1989. The fall of the Iron Curtain led to fundamental cultural and political re-alignments in the German-speaking world, unleashing a wave of cultural comment and creative activity. The 1990s and early twenty-first century saw a re-vitalisation of the film scene in both Germany and Austria, evident not only in highly acclaimed niche productions but also in a series of international box-office hits.
