Dr Kim shares the highlights:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We have an incredible student society: EllSoc (English Language and Linguistics Society &#8211; geek out with other language nerds, and even help organise a real life conference!<\/li>\n<li>We get some amazing speakers to visit throughout the year &#8211; to give you an idea of how cool these are, here are a couple examples from previous years:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gretchenmcculloch.com\/\">Gretchen McCullough<\/a>, who writes about internet language and has a regular column in Wired.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/harrypotter.fandom.com\/wiki\/Francis_Nolan\">Francis Nolan<\/a> (Cambridge), who created Parseltongue for the Harry Potter films.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Hang out and work on assignments etc. with classmates in our very own computer lab just for English Language and Linguistics students.<\/li>\n<li>Volunteer to teach English to refugees at <a href=\"https:\/\/research.kent.ac.uk\/theenglishhubforrefugees\/\">The English Hub for Refugees.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Get your writing out there as part of hands-on modules like Writing in the Media &#8211; check out their <a href=\"https:\/\/medium.com\/writing-in-the-media\">Medium.com page.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Lots of opportunities to get involved in research (guided research projects during the academic year, Summer internships &#8211; some of our past interns have their names on international conference presentations!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We caught up with Senior Lecturer in Linguistics, Dr Christina Kim to find out more about English Language and Linguistics at Kent.
