Students studying Phonetics and Phonology have entered a poetry competition focusing on life during a pandemic.<\/p>\n
A message to 2020\u00a0<\/strong>by\u00a0Emily Copeland<\/a><\/p>\n 2020 what a mess you are<\/em><\/p>\n You seemed so perfect but that idea is far from far<\/em><\/p>\n We counted down the minutes till you arrived<\/em><\/p>\n Yet all we were faced with was the need to survive<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n 2020 if only we knew what you had planned to do<\/em><\/p>\n Maybe things would change but that\u2019s only down to you<\/em><\/p>\n Holidays, travel, \u00a0pubs and bars<\/em><\/p>\n Seems only like a \u00a0distant dream of ours<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n However 2020 you gave us something we never would expect<\/em><\/p>\n The idea of living without hugs does seem to wreck<\/em><\/p>\n Perhaps we will now appreciate what we had<\/em><\/p>\n For once its all gone it does feel so sad<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n 2020 please leave us with at least a flicker of light \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n For one day we will live in hope that this was all just a fright<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n Summary of my life in 2020\u00a0<\/strong>by\u00a0Olivia Goodwin<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n My favorite thing to do is sleep\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n I watch my lectures until I weep\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n I ate stale bread I found in the cupboard\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n I ate it plain not even buttered\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n I know I’m gross you don’t have to lie\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n I don’t mean to dissatisfy\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n I crawl back into bed, amen\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n When I wake up I do it all over again<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n i miss spoons\u00a0<\/strong>by\u00a0Hannah Etheridge<\/a><\/p>\n <\/p>\n no matter the time, no matter the day<\/em><\/p>\n i trudge down t’spoons to chug me troubles away<\/em><\/p>\n could go in a group, could go on me own<\/em><\/p>\n the ugly brown chair’s like a golden throne<\/em><\/p>\n each pitcher’s a joy, can’t even concede it,<\/em><\/p>\n move that extra glass love, i don’t even need it<\/em><\/p>\n with two for twelve pounds and breakfast all day,<\/em><\/p>\n not even ol’ Boris can keep me away<\/em><\/p>\n <\/p>\n For more information on English Language and Linguistics, visit the website<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
