{"id":13785,"date":"2021-02-03T12:17:38","date_gmt":"2021-02-03T12:17:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=13785"},"modified":"2021-02-03T12:17:38","modified_gmt":"2021-02-03T12:17:38","slug":"kents-modern-languages-students-take-part-in-school-mentoring-scheme-during-pandemic","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2021\/02\/03\/kents-modern-languages-students-take-part-in-school-mentoring-scheme-during-pandemic\/","title":{"rendered":"Kent&#8217;s Modern Languages students take part in school mentoring scheme during pandemic"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Lecturer in Latin American Studies, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/modern-languages-linguistics\/people\/1784\/ogden-rebecca\">Dr Rebecca Ogden<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/modern-languages-linguistics\/people\/1788\/heinrich-tobias\">Dr Tobias Heinrich<\/a>, Lecturer in German, have been interviewed for a KMTV documentary on the University\u2019s response to the Coronavirus crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of the pandemic, over thirty of our Modern Languages students have volunteered to mentor over two-hundred pupils in more than fifteen schools across Kent and beyond studying towards their GCSEs and A-levels in French, German, Italian or Spanish.<\/p>\n<p>The mentors meet with pupils online on a regular basis to provide them with an opportunity to speak their target language and share their enthusiasm for foreign cultures at a time where regular teaching in schools as well as international travel is strongly restricted.
