{"id":13046,"date":"2020-07-29T16:39:35","date_gmt":"2020-07-29T15:39:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=13046"},"modified":"2020-10-01T11:15:49","modified_gmt":"2020-10-01T10:15:49","slug":"william-rowlandson-literary-workshop-juan-rulfo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2020\/07\/29\/william-rowlandson-literary-workshop-juan-rulfo\/","title":{"rendered":"William Rowlandson gives literary workshop on Juan Rulfo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday 30 July, Dr William Rowlandson, Senior Lecturer in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/european-culture-languages\/modern-languages\">Department of Modern Languages<\/a>, gave his annual <a href=\"https:\/\/casadepiedra.net\/2020\/07\/22\/taller-literario-con-juan-rulfo-como-protagonista\/?fbclid=IwAR0hmKqzGJxw8lpkCgoZr9z6IzUUdv9itjvMqF3hgRDSov6C53bIidbkOwQ\">Literary Workshop<\/a> in the Cultural Centre \u2018Casa de Piedra\u2019 as part of the \u2018Conferencias del Archivo de Indianos\u2019 in Colombres, northern Spain.<\/p>\n<p>William teaches the short stories of Juan Rulfo in the Level 4 module &#8216;LS308 The Modern Latin American Short Story&#8217;, exploring in particular Rulfo\u2019s depiction of the unforgiving environment of Jalisco, the ubiquity of violence, and the oppression of the campesinos, as representative of the troubled decades following the Mexican Revolution.<\/p>\n<p>Those interested in participation, for which registration is not necessary, can <a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1edxmskbE3jJ8GQEVrjUk9sgjhAQOCK3T\/view?usp=sharing\">download these stories in PDF <\/a>in advance.<\/p>\n<p>The theme of this year\u2019s workshop is the Mexican photographer and writer Juan Rulfo.
