{"id":12816,"date":"2020-06-03T09:09:42","date_gmt":"2020-06-03T08:09:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=12816"},"modified":"2020-06-03T09:09:42","modified_gmt":"2020-06-03T08:09:42","slug":"todd-mei-cryptocurrency-humanities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2020\/06\/03\/todd-mei-cryptocurrency-humanities\/","title":{"rendered":"Todd Mei writes on \u2018Cryptocurrency and the Intelligence of the Humanities\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Todd Mei, Head of the Department of Philosophy, has recently published for the <em>Australian Humanities Review <\/em>\u00a0as part of a conversation on \u2018Cryptocurrency and the Intelligence of the Humanities\u2019 with an article titled <a href=\"http:\/\/australianhumanitiesreview.org\/2020\/05\/31\/cryptocurrency-kneeling-before-speculation\/\">&#8216;Cryptocurrency: Kneeling Before Speculation&#8217;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The novelty of cryptocurrency resides in how its block-chain technology provides an immutable public record of financial transactions that does not require regulation by a central authority,&#8221; Todd writes, &#8220;Lurking behind this advance is the idea that algorithms, or machine code, eliminate conventional processes that are not only less expedient but mired in institutional and personal biases.
