{"id":11267,"date":"2019-10-18T11:35:11","date_gmt":"2019-10-18T10:35:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=11267"},"modified":"2019-10-28T08:46:26","modified_gmt":"2019-10-28T08:46:26","slug":"tamara-rathke-gives-talk-at-macquarie-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2019\/10\/18\/tamara-rathke-gives-talk-at-macquarie-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Tamara Rathcke speaks at Macquarie and Sydney universities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Tamara Rathcke, senior lecturer in linguistics for the department of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/european-culture-languages\/english-language-linguistics\">English Language and Linguistics<\/a>, gave a talk at Macquarie University, Sydney, on Tuesday 17 September; and at The University of Sydney on Wednesday 16 October, titled <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mq.edu.au\/research\/research-centres-groups-and-facilities\/healthy-people\/centres\/centre-for-language-sciences-clas\/news-and-events\/events\/events\/dr-tamara-rathcke-seminar\">&#8216;When language hits the beat: synchronising movement to simple tonal and verbal stimuli&#8217;<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Rhythmic perception-action coupling through sensorimotor synchronization has been studied with non-verbal, simple and complex auditory signals like a metronome and music. Applications of the paradigm to language are relatively rare, but could provide a valuable tool for investigating rhythm perception in speech.
