{"id":10458,"date":"2019-04-24T12:00:18","date_gmt":"2019-04-24T11:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/?p=10458"},"modified":"2019-04-24T12:00:18","modified_gmt":"2019-04-24T11:00:18","slug":"canterbury-cathedral-windows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/secl-news-events\/2019\/04\/24\/canterbury-cathedral-windows\/","title":{"rendered":"Public lecture series to focus on Canterbury Cathedral windows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Department of Religious Studies will provide people with an opportunity to learn more about Canterbury Cathedral\u2019s stained glass windows in a series of special lectures during 2019.<\/p>\n<p>This will include an opportunity to view the windows before hearing about how they were made, the stories they tell, the biblical figures they illustrate and their relevance today.<\/p>\n<p>The series, entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/see-through-stories\/\"><em>See Through Stories: Windows on the World<\/em><\/a>, begins on Wednesday 1 May and is a collaboration between the School of European Culture and Languages, <a href=\"https:\/\/thevcs.org\/\">VCS<\/a> (Visual Commentary on Scripture) of King\u2019s College, London and Canterbury Cathedral.<\/p>\n<p>The first talk <em>Who do you think you are?: The use of genealogies in the Construction of Identity from the bible to the BBC<\/em> by Rabbi Dr Deborah Kahn-Harris begins at 19.00 on Wednesday 1 May in the Clagett Auditorium, Cathedral Lodge.<\/p>\n<p>Tickets should be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/see-through-stories-windows-on-the-world-tickets-58713892834\">booked in advance<\/a> and are priced at \u00a38 each or \u00a335 for the series. Teachers and students (school and university) can pre-book free tickets by e-mailing <a href=\"mailto:directorofeducation@canterbury-cathedral.org\">directorofeducation@canterbury-cathedral.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/secl\/thrs\/staff\/sherwood.html\">Yvonne Sherwood<\/a>, Professor of Biblical Cultures and Politics in the Department of Religious Studies said: \u2018Each speaker will use the beautiful twelfth Century <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canterbury-archaeology.org.uk\/bible-window\/4590809622\">Bible windows<\/a> in Canterbury Cathedral to reflect on ethical and philosophical questions.
