The University Teaching prizes have been announced for an award ceremony in October. The prizes are awarded annually by each Faculty, and there is a separate prize for learning support that is available to teaching and non-teaching staff.<\/p>\n
The Humanities Faculty Teaching Prize was shared between two members of SECL, Professor Laurence Goldstein from the Department of Philosophy<\/a> and Heidi Colthup<\/a> from the Department of English Language & Linguistics<\/a>.<\/p>\n Laurence specifically won for his innovative project of introducing tutorials by video link <\/a>through the use of WebEx platform, that enables having an on screen conference between tutor and student which can be recorded for playback or external examination.<\/p>\n Heidi\u2019s innovative contribution to the module LZ522: Writing in the Media<\/a>, a higher level module. Heidi has been responsible for several developments, such as modifying the interview assignment, developing a module Twitter feed, and most importantly introducing a pitch assignment which led to a number of students not only sending off their pitches but getting interest most notably from The Times Literary Supplement<\/i>, Cosmopolitan<\/i> and The Spectator<\/i>.<\/p>\n Both Laurence and Heidi have won \u00a32,500 contribution to professional expenses to encourage and expand their work.<\/p>\n The full list of winners is available here:
