The Department of Philosophy is delighted to announce that Ruth Hibbert has been awarded a PhD in Philosophy under the supervision of Dr David Corfield and Dr Kristoffer Ahlstrom-Vij, with a thesis entitled ‘Are there any Situated Cognition Concepts of Memory Functioning as Investigative Kinds in the Sciences of Memory?’
Her thesis looks closely at three case studies of scientific investigations into memory from various sub-disciplines to see what kind of concepts of memory are being employed by the scientists. An historical approach is used to determine whether those concepts are functioning well. The research reveals multiple different types of concepts that are functioning well, thus recommending that scientific practice be pluralist with respect to concepts of memories.
Our congratulations to Dr Hibbert.
