Media internship at German public broadcaster

Applications are now being taken for the internship with the German media company Hessischer Rundfunk, which was introduced by the Department of German as part of the module GE586: Medien und Oeffentlichkeit.

The Hessischer Rundfunk is part of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der öffentlichrechtlichen Rundfunkanstalten Deutschlands, the group of public broadcasting corporations of the Federal Republic of Germany. It has one television station, hr fernsehen, and six radio stations with a total audience of 2.4 million people every day, including hr-iNFO, a 24-hour current affairs radio programme with news every 20 minutes, providing background, facts, opinion and analysis.

Applications are open to second and final-year students with fluent German, an interest in (and talent for) journalism and current affairs and an outgoing personality. The internship will be for three months in the summer after you apply, with one month at hr-iNFO, one month at hr-online and one month on the television programme hr fernsehen. Students will receive 480 euros a month plus a grant for travel and living expenses.

Applications indicating ‘Hessischer Rundfunk-Praktikum University of Kent’ should be written in German and include a covering letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of relevant work experience if applicable and selected samples of work if available (copies of blog posts, news articles etc., these can also be in English), and sent to Stephanie Albers at ausbildung@hr.de

The closing date is 21 April 2014.
