Reader in French, Dr Thomas Baldwin’s latest book, Roland Barthes: The Proust Variations, has been shortlisted by The Society for French Studies’ R. Gapper Book Prize. The team behind the award explain that the prestigious R. Gapper Book Prize, ‘is awarded to a book in the field of French studies, published for the first time in the previous calendar year, by a scholar based in an institution of higher education in the United Kingdom or Ireland’
Dr Thomas Baldwin’s latest book, Roland Barthes: The Proust Variations, ‘confronts the singularity of the relationship between two exemplary writers of the last century in order to challenge and to reinvigorate our notions of what art and criticism – literary or otherwise – can do.’
