The 2019 National Student Survey (NSS), an independent annual survey of final-year undergraduate students is one of the key measures of how students rate their time at university, and was completed by more than 300,000 final-year students in the UK in 2019.
The survey asks students about many of the factors that are most important to them, including aspects of their teaching, their subject and the wider University community. Within the School of European Culture and Languages, a number of subject areas excelled.
In Comparative Literature, over 90% of students expressed satisfaction with the teaching on their course and 100% reported overall satisfaction with the quality of their course.
Within the Department of Classical & Archaeological Studies, over 90% of Archaeology students expressed satisfaction with the teaching on their course and over 92% reported overall satisfaction with the quality of their course. Classics at Kent also excelled with over 90% of our students expressing satisfaction with the teaching on their course and over 96% reporting overall satisfaction with the quality of their course.
In Philosophy, over 90% of our students have expressed satisfaction with the teaching on their course.
Within the Department of Religious Studies, Asian Studies saw over 92% of our students expressing overall satisfaction with the quality of their course.
Professor Shane Weller, Head of the School of European Culture and Languages and Professor of Comparative Literature said: ‘The views of our students are incredibly important to us as teachers and researchers and we have made a number of changes in response to the 2018 survey, as well as other student feedback received throughout the year. The 2019 National Student Survey – in which our students have rated their experience at Kent so highly – alongside the University’s gold award in the most recent Teaching Excellence Framework, is testament to the talent and hard work of our international community of staff.’
