The Centre for Anglican History and Theology is hosting an event on Monday 1 August to promote its academic research and work on global Anglicanism to bishops from around the world attending the Lambeth Conference.
The Centre is also seeking to open opportunities for sharing online modules and events with the 165 countries represented at the Conference. The event will showcase the work of the Centre and provide interdisciplinary work to enrich thinking and debate around Anglican history and thought. It will also explore collaborative engagements.
The Centre for Anglican History and Theology, co-directed by Kenneth Fincham (Professor of Early Modern History) and Jeremy Carrette (Professor of Philosophy, Religion and Culture), was founded in 2020. It seeks to bring together interdisciplinary work from a range of fields, including history, religion, literature, gender studies, architecture and social science, to reflect on the Anglican tradition at the heart of its global home in Canterbury. The Centre collaborates closely with Canterbury Cathedral and is an important part of the University’s civic mission. The Centre hosts conferences, lectures and a reading group, with its programme of events listed here.
Professor Fincham and Professor Carrette said: ‘We are delighted to host an event at the Lambeth Conference to share the academic work of the Centre and provide engagements and debate around Anglican thinking in an open and interdisciplinary manner. The event is opportunity to create educational links to the global south and for University research to inform the worldwide network of the Anglican Communion.’
