Arts and Humanities Heroes 2021

In a year quite unlike any other, we wanted to acknowledge how fantastically resilient our students have all been throughout an extremely difficult time.

To recognise this strength our students have all shown, our Student Experience team asked Arts and Humanities students to nominate their ‘hero’.  They were thrilled to receive so many positive and inspiring nominations – we hope these bring you a little piece of joy and a reminder that hope can always be found, even in the toughest times.

Jonah Shehata

BA English Language and Linguistics

Nominated by Nathan Dorsch

“He has been a great friend and has an admirable persevering attitude. Consequently, he has been a constant source of motivation.”

Rachel Etherington

BA English Language and Linguistics and German

Nominated by Rebecca Millar

“This person has been through a lot this year. However, she has continued to work admirably, and treated the people around her with respect, kindness and warmth. Despite all she has had to wrestle with, she continued to support her societies (German soc., Kent RAG), completed her university work to a consistently high standard and set up an embroidery side business for the Three Peaks Challenge supporting the National Autistic Society. This particular individual rarely acknowledges all that she does, and tends to keep quiet about just how much good she puts out into the world. I think she should see herself as other people do: a powerhouse of emotional strength, integrity and will.”
