Lecturer in Classical History and Literature, Dr Rosie Wyles, and Senior Lecturer in Latin Literature, Dr Dunstan Lowe, are guests on two separate episodes of BBC Radio 4’s ‘In Our Time’ show with host, Melvyn Bragg.
Dr Wyles’s was a guest on Thursday 18 March, discussing Euripides’ The Bacchae. This links to Dr Wyle’s research and latest book, Theatre Props and Civic Identity in Athens, 458-405 BC. The book looks at the intersection between theatre and society, and answers the question, ‘How did Athenian drama shape ideas about civic identity?’ through the medium of three case studies focusing on props.
Dr Lowe will be a guest on Thursday 29 April, discussing the Roman poet, Ovid. Ovid’s poetry was a major focus of Dr Dustan Lowe’s book, Monsters and Monstrosity in Augustan Poetry (2015), and Dr Lowe has also published several journal articles about Ovid.
You can listen to both the Ovid episode and The Bacchae episode on BBC Radio 4 now.
