Dr David Walsh, Lecturer in the Department of Classical and Archaeological Studies, has just released a podcast available now to stream via iTunes and Spotify.
David’s guest is Dr Ellen Swift, Reader in Archaeology in the Department of Classical and Archaeological Studies, who has been a major figure in Roman archaeology for about 20 years.
In this podcast, they discuss Ellen’s most recent project with the Petrie Museum, which involves looking at objects from Roman Egypt and recreating (playing) ancient instruments; the importance of experimental archaeology; and how Ellen became interested in Archaeology at university. They also ponder the effects a religious background can have on research choices, and the benefits of experimental archaeology. There is also a discussion about what an ancient Egyptian Beatles tribute band would be called!
