Dr Steve Willis, Senior Lecturer in Archaeology in the Department of Classical & Archaeological Studies, will be hosting the Third Annual Kent Archaeology Society Day Conference on the 26 November 2016 in Rutherford College, Lecture Theatres 1 and 2.

The Kent Archaeological Society was founded in 1857 and aims to promote the study and publication of archaeology and history in all their branches, especially within the ancient county of Kent.

The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Roman Villas in the Landscape’. The conference will include seven papers, with Steve on ‘Thoughts on the Emerging Themes’, Dr Elizabeth Blanning, Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Kent, on ‘Becoming Roman: A Perspective from Rural Kent’ and Classical and Archaeological Studies PhD student Simon Elliott on ‘Ragstone to Riches’. Roman finds will also be on display.

Dr Lacey Wallace (University of Lincoln) will be talking about the recently discovered villa at Bourne Park, just outside Canterbury, where University of Kent students helped reveal the remains of the Roman baths during the first dig at the site in September.

Further details of the conference and how to book are available at: www.kentarchaeology.org.uk/kas-news/villas-in-the-roman-landscape-canterbury-sat-26-november-2016/
