Dr Simon Kirchin, from the Department of Philosophy, will be giving a keynote lecture at this year’s British Society for Ethical Theory (BSET) annual conference, to be held in July at Cardiff University to give a keynote speech.
The title of Simon’s lecture is ‘Aesthetic Prescriptions and Moral Prescriptions’, in which he will show how aesthetic prescriptions, such as ‘you must put the picture just here’ and ‘you ought not wear green and red together’, compare and contrast with moral prescriptions, such as ‘you should be kind to animals’ and ‘don’t kick people when they’re down’.
BSET is an academic society dedicated to philosophical research in ethics. The annual conference is the leading forum for the discussion of ethical theory in the UK philosophy calendar and this year’s conference celebrates its 20th birthday.
