Professor Ray Laurence from the Department of Classical & Archaeological Studies was interviewed on Friday 23 October by the online site HistoryBuff about his Ted-Ed videos on Ancient Rome.
The animated videos entitled ‘A Glimpse of Teenage Life in Ancient Rome’ and ‘Four Sisters in Ancient Rome’ look at growing up in Ancient Rome through the eyes of two Roman children Lucius and Domitia. The videos have been viewed over 2 million times between them, and have proved popular with educators teaching about Rome. They draw on new research into the nature of betrothal and childhood undertaken at the University of Kent. In the interview on HistoryBuff, Ray talks about the making of the videos, how the animations have been used, future plans for the characters from the videos and new projects he is working on.
