Dr William Rowlandson, Senior lecturer in Hispanic Studies in the Department of Modern Languages, has given a talk for the University of Kent’s TEDx event, which is now available on YouTube.
The talk, entitled ‘John Lennon in Havanna’, looks at Lennon as an iconic figure in modern Cuban culture. Through a melodic retelling of Lennon’s influence on Cuban history, William explores the importance of a statue, dedicated to Lennon, in a park in Havana.
TEDx is an international community that organises TED-style events celebrating locally-driven ideas and elevating them to a global stage. TEDx events are produced independently of TED conferences, each event curates speakers on their own, but based on TED’s format and rules.
The University of Kent’s TEDx event was organised as part 0f the 50th anniversary celebrations with the theme of ‘Milestones’. William’s video is available below or at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=inQgsef0rOw
