Catherine Hoggarth, a PhD student in the Department of Classical & Archaeological Studies, has secured a three month placement at the Corinium Museum in Cirencester with funding from the Consortium of the Humanities and the Arts South East England (CHASE)
The Corinium museum has one of the most extensive collections of Romano-British artefacts in the world. The museum has been awarded a significant Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) award to create a new visitor experience by reinterpreting and redesigning a number of galleries.
Catherine will be working with artefacts in the early Roman gallery and will be utilising her PhD research on space and movement in the urban environment as well as linking her MA studies on the role of equids in Roman culture.
‘This project represents an exciting and rewarding opportunity for me to be directly involved in the reinterpretation of a museum gallery,’ explained Catherine. ‘My research and ideas will be translated into something tangible that the public will be engaging with and learning from for many years to come.’
We wish Catherine every success on her placement.
